Ex Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed and Eritrea’s long-time Dictator, Isaias Afewerki the twin evils against humanity

The Evil of the Twin Evils, not only against Peace & Democracy but Chillingly, against Humanity, Christianity, Islam and UNESCO’s World Heritages!
By now, the world knows that Ethiopia's Ex-Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, in coordination with Eritrea’s global pariah, Isaias Afewerki, have ordered a military offensive against not only the democratically elected government of Tigray but also against the people of Tigray, who, ever since the Ex-PM came to power and set the rest of Ethiopia ablaze, had maintained, despite of the innumerable acts of crimes and provocations from the twin evils, a peaceful life, and with an open-door policy toward everyone! At this very hour, the Ex-PM and his mentor, Isaias Afewerki, have cut off electricity, telephone and postal services and the Internet. That means, at this very hour hospitals and any commerce which uses electricity and digital media are without power! This latest act of barbarity is in addition to the various crimes against humanity which started during the reign of the Ex- Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalign.
It is to be recalled that during the Desalign administration, Tigrayans were murdered thousands and ethnic-cleansed by the tens of thousands from Gondar and elsewhere in the Amara Regional State. It is also to be recalled that at the time of the murders and ethnic cleansing, some of the key Amara Reginal State power brokers were the current but Ex-Deputy Prime Demeke Mekonen and Foreign Minister Gedu Endargachew. Appallingly, these individuals along with the Ex-PM Abiye Ahmed, are the protagonists of the current war campaign against the State of Tigray! Appallingly too, the Ex-PM Hailemariam Desalign, is now in the board of trustee of the International Crisis Group (ICG), an organization supposedly in the mission of preventing war and crisis!!
Since the ascent of the Ex-PM Abiye Ahmed, the plight of Tigrayans had gone from bad to an existential predicament. Ethnic-cleansing, extrajudicial killings, state sponsored media campaign to incite ethnic cleansing, road closings to blockade not only to prevent enter-state commerce but to use food as weapon, imprisonment without due process of law, discrimination in employment, hijacking of public goods, and harassment of Tegaru at airports and elsewhere outside Tigray, has become not only exceptions but state policies! There are the other crimes too.
At a time when a global pandemic and locust invasion of biblical magnitude, has posed an existential threat to the people of Tigray, the Ex-PM Abiye and his comrade in crime, Isaias Afewerki, not only denied delivery of masks to Tigrayan students, and blocked and grounded trucks carrying essential goods including medicinal products and agricultural implements but also blocked delivery of drones donated by Tigrayans in the Diaspora, to fight the natural disaster. Moreover and no doubt a direct evidence of crimes against humanity, the Ex-PM Abiye, in collusion with Isaias, has excluded Tigray from receiving air support in the fight against the locust at a time when that the Ex-PM had launched locust mitigation operations in States or Kilils which border or adjacent to the State of Tigray! The message could not have been clearer; Abiy Ahmed and his handlers wanted the locust to devastate the livelihood of the Tigrayan people and in so doing, they wanted to sentence the people of Tigray to, once again, a biblical famine the likes which once shook the conscience of the world; they are in fact in the process of creating another round of “We are the World!” The blockade extended to other areas too.
Not only the Abiye regime has denied shipment of food from humanitarian organizations destined for people surviving on safety net rations but also blocked free excess to Tigray by journalists, scientists, investors and tourists have been blocked from going to Tigray too. Journalists who wanted to witness and monitor the recent democratic elections were not only discouraged from observing the elections, but some were barred from their travel to Tigray and others harassed for doing their journalistic duty. Similarly, academicians who have been a part and parcel of lots of research projects, some of them for decades, have been denied resumption of their work or told to never to return. Both domestic and foreign investors, some of them with many years of work in Tigray, have been pulled out of planes and blocked from flying to Tigray. Tourists have faced the same fate too. The Ex-PM Abiye and his henchmen and women have blocked tourists from going Tigray while at the same time allowing tourists to travel to places like Lalibela. Clearly, the Abiye regime is using tourism as another means or tool for the economic strangulation of Tigray. And as though all the above crimes have not been cruel and illegal enough, today the Ex-PM Abiye and his role model, have launched a total military war on the people of Tigray.
At this very hour, as was indicated above, there is no electric city, internet, telephone and postal service, banking, etc. Hospitals are without power and businesses which depend on electricity, have been brought to a standstill! All communications with the rest of Ethiopia and the international community have been cut off! On top of all these, the Ex-PM and his mentor, have unleashed the Ethiopian armed forces against the state of Tigray, endangering not only the lives of the people of Tigray but also the UNESCO world heritages which dot just about every plain, mountain, hill and cliff, some estimate it be about three hundred strong, in the state of Tigray. What we have is a declaration of war on a people and their world class heritages, for nothing else but for standing for their inalienable rights to pursue life and liberty governed not by tyranny but by what Abraham Lincoln called “a government of the consent, by the people, and for the people!” It is critical that the international community rise before the rockets and missiles of these twin evil destroy not only the lives of a peaceful people but also the timeless footprints that are the UNESCO World Heritages which has made Tigray such the “Open air Museum of the world!” It is high time that the world community intervene before the citadels of Christians and Muslims fall prey to the rockets and missiles of these lawless renegades!
It is time for the international community, especially democratic governments and human rights groups, to pay a close attention into the cataclysmic tragedy befalling on the people of Tigray. The Ex-PM Abiye Ahmed is an Ex-PM whose legal reign was over last moth! Ever since he came to power, he has extinguished the lives of so many innocent public and civil servants as well as ordinary people who stood up for their rights. And at this very hour, even though the State of Tigray had prevented for the last three years of his reign, despite the odds, Abiye’s mass killings from taking place in Tigray, he has now unleashed the armed forces of Ethiopia against the people of Tigray! They did not deserve the barbarity of the last couple of years and they certainly do not want or need a new one! A people of law and peace do deserve respect and never tyranny!
The people of Tigray are a people of peace and a people whose mission has been, all along, to live in peace, build democracy and to conquer the scourge of underdevelopment! As a people of faith and home to the original and unadulterated forms of Christianity and Islam, they are a people who live by faith, honor and love. That was why, even though the Abiye regime had spent the past couple of years throwing every crude and cruel inhumanity at the people of Tigray, they did not respond in kind. Instead, the Tigray government led by the ruling party, TPLF, and with full support of the people, have been advocating for an Ethiopian transitional government which included all political parties from all the peoples of the Nations and Nationalities that make up Ethiopia! The people of Tigray have been advocating for the rule of law to be the final arbiter and never the barrel of the gun. In this light, what they people of Tigray have been and still are campaigning for, are in line with that of the great American President Abraham Lincoln once said when he spoke of “with malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation's wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.” Tigray wants to preserve life, heal all wounds and enshrine a lasting peace!
Through its long history, Tigray has built one of the four great civilizations and world heritages, in the world. Tigray has also seen wars and understands the cost of war. In the last half a century alone, Tigray had endured the scourge of war twice and she wants none now or in the future. Over the past half of a century, tens of thousands of Tigray’s children have given their ultimate gift for the cause of peace and democracy, and with their blood, transformed Ethiopian into an “economic tiger” of the world! Ex-PM Abiye has reversed all that progress and sent back Ethiopia to be known as the “Misery Index” of the world! Tigray does not want to go backwards but forwards and for a bright tomorrow! Going forward, peace, brotherhood and development are Tigray’s calling and never war!
All along for the past half of a century, Tigray has been calling on her compatriots to “…strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation's wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.” At this very hour, at the time when Abiye and Isaias are unleashing the dogs of war, Tigray is calling upon them to stop and think and come to their senses! But they have no senses. After all, these are twin evils condemned to a life of evil! Isaias has been killing and starving his people for about half a century including school children he vaporized at the Ayder school in the heart of Mekelle, the capital of Tigray. Similarly, his protégé, Abiye Ahmed, in a short three years, not only reduced Ethiopia into a nation governed not by democratic law but by military command posts, and in so doing transformed this ancient country into a “Killing Field!” It is time for the international community to come together and hold these merchants of war, accountable for their crimes not only against democracy and the rule of democratic law but worst for their crimes against humanity, desecration of the citadels of both Christianity and Islam, and for the threat they posed to the UNESCO’s world heritages which dots the Tigrayan landscape! If the international community fails to rise to the occasion, it must know that it could very well have another Rwanda in its hands!
