In an unprecedented move widely regarded by the fellowship of Reese Adbarat St. Mary of Debre Tsion as long overdue, EOTC’s His Eminence Archbishop Entos of North West Europe, defrocked Birrhanu Bisrat on 23rd March 2014. The decision effectively bars Birrhanu from carrying out the duties of a clergy within and beyond EOTC’s North West Europe Diocese.
The decision to defrock Birrhanu Bisrat was read to a capacity crowd of church goers not only from Debre Tsion, but also from three sisterly EOTC parishes within London.
Birrhanu Bisrat, the preamble to His Eminence decision states, had brazenly flouted the canon laws of EOTC by administering Sunday services in a manner and style inimical to the laws and rituals of the Mother Church.
Birrhanu Bisrat earned notoriety when he became the ‘spiritual leader’ of a rouble-rousing section of the fellowship of Debre Tsion hell-bent on breaking away from the spiritual and administrative jurisdiction of the Holy Synod of the Holy See of St. Tekle Haimanot.
