TDVA Boston fundraising Event Report

The Tigray community in greater Boston and its environs has always been part and supportive of the positive socio-economic changes that are going on in Ethiopia in general and in Tigray in particular. The fundraising event, sponsored by The Union of Tigrayans in North America (TNA), which was held on December 29/2007, to support the Tigray Disabled Veteran's Association (TDVA) is a good example. This extraordinary event successfully rose close to $55,000.00 US dollars.

The occasion was run by dedicated committee members from all social groups; carrying various tasks and responsibilities. The committee would like to thank those who donated and particularly appreciate Aite Suliman Mohamend, owner of 7-ELVEN; for his coordinating ability and for his charitable donation. Likewise, we thank the talented music band, Aberash G/medhin, Azzie Hagoss , Fikre Soboka, and Muritse Abreha.

The people of Boston were honored with the presence of delegates led by Honorable Asmelash W/Silassie (Abay Negso) and members of his group the Honorable Atsbeha Aregawi and atite Alem G/meskel (Wedi Ala). The delegation, during its stay in Boston, had a chance to meet members of the community to discuss their project and to answer questions that arose on the socio-economic and political development and the challenges of in our country-Ethiopia.

One particular group the delegate met was the Boston Tigrai Women's Association (BTWA). During this meeting the chair woman w/ro Guaye recognized and appreciated the heroic menand women's accomplishment and expressed how much the member were pleased to meet the delegates in Boston. Then BTWA expressed its commitment to be a member of TDVA. The Chair woman, w/ro Guaye, donated $5,000.00 US in the name of her organization. The Honorable Asmelash W/Silassie, The head of the delegates, explained the role of Tigrai women during the armed struggle and the high number of female Tigray Disabled Veterans. He expressed his appreciation of the donation and it importance to support TDVA.
