The 50th Anniversary of the Golden Jubilee of the African Union was colorfully celebrated in Washington D.C in the presence of high-level U.S. government Officials, Ambassadors and Diplomats stationed in the capital.
During the event the message of Ethiopian Prime Minister and Current Chairperson Hailemariam Desalegn was delivered by Ambassador Abdelah Baali, representing the African Ambassadors Group in the US.
The Ethiopian Premier and Current Chairperson of the African Union Hailemariam Desalegn in his clarion call on the occasion reinforced "the need to rededicate our efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability, accelerate economic growth and deepen governance reforms with a view to laying a social foundation for Africa's socio-economic transformation".
The Prime Minister and Current AU Chairperson recalled that 50 years ago on May 25, 1963 the founding fathers inspired by the ideals of pan-Africanism had signed the Charter establishing the OAU.
The Chairperson paid tribute to successive generations of African leaders who said has bequeathed to the present generation a continent free from the shackles of colonialism and apartheid, he underscored.
Expressing his optimism on the present wind of Renaissance of the continent, The Ethiopian Premier and Current AU Chairperson reiterated his firm belief by emphasizing that "with a visionary leadership committed to bring change, a developmental state capable of playing a dynamic role and the mobilization of all sections of the African people, there is no doubt that Africa shall be free of the scourge of conflicts and abject poverty."
