The Ethiopian Airlines yesterday signed an agreement awarding the design work of its new headquarters building planned to be built at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport to BET Architects. The agreement was signed by Yisak Zeweldi, VP corporate and strategic planning with Ethiopian, and Tesfamariam Teshome, manager and senior partner of BET Architects. The contract includes detailed design, construction supervision and contract administration.
The planned new headquarters of Ethiopian will have four floors with a total area of 15,500 sq.m. “This is a complex building,” Tesfamariam told The Reporter. BET Architects will work on the project in collaboration with its international partner, Soehne Partner Architatects, an Austria-based company. “There will be about five subcontractors that will participate in various specialised design works,” Tesfamariam said.
Originally eight months were allotted for the detailed design work but this has been reduced to six months through negotiations. Ethiopian will put up a bid soon that will enable it to select the contractor that will build the new headquarters.
Fifteen consultants participated in the design competition organised by Ethiopian. The jury comprised architects drawn from the Ethiopian Architects Association and the Addis Ababa University.
BET is engaged in the Hossana University project, Hawassa University and Civil Service College expansion projects. It is also the consultant of the Wolkite General Hospital project being financed by the Gurage Development Association.
BET Architects was established by Tesfamariam Teshome and Daniel Alemayehu in 2003.
