Ethiopian Runner Yared Hagos Ethiopia's Yared Hagos won the men's race with a storming display, leading from start to finish. He crossed the line in 64 mins 15 secs, more than a minute quicker than Barry Royden's 1999 previous best. Paul Marteletti, Victoria Park Harriers and Tower Harriers, took second (69:10) and Matthew Bennett of Soton RC came third (71:22).

Tonbridge AC runners Julian Rendall and Dan Bradley were always to the fore.

It was Rendall, in fifth place, who just held off a fast finishing Bradley, as they recorded times of 72:21 and 72:26, respectively. For Bradley it was a personal best by almost a minute.

The third and final scorer home was Simon Fraser, currently in training for another London Marathon. Fraser recorded 79:09 in 12th place, to secure the first team prize for Tonbridge.

Helen Davies was the leading lady, beating Liz Yelling's 2011 record with 72:40.

"Yared Hagos' run really was something special," race director Sarah Russell said.

"He led from start to finish and was four minutes ahead of the guy in second. It was a stunning performance.

"The first lady, Helen Davies, was seventh overall. It was another absolutely outstanding performance. It's the third time she has run the race – she won two years ago and was second to Liz Yelling last year. She has improved year on year and took over a minute off the record set by Liz.
