Ethiopians in London and its environs accorded a warm welcome on Wednesday (30th July) to the majority of Team Ethiopia upon its arrival at Heathrow on board the National Carrier, ETHIOPIAN.

H.E. Abdissa Yadeta, Commissioner for Sports, H.E. Ambassador Berhanu Kebede, Members of the National Ethiopian Olympic Commission, diplomats and a cross section of the Ethiopian community in greater London greeted the contingent ululating and singing in praise of the athletes.

The crowd, cheering and waving the national tri-colour, were seen hugging and kissing the athletes wishing them victory at the greatest of sporting events with a display of enthusiasm and confidence in their outstanding performances.

The delegation included the legendary Ethiopian athlete Miruts Yifter,"the gear changer", who is here to attend the 2012 London Olympics as a veteran athlete.

A press conference will be held at the Ethiopian Embassy on Friday 3rd August at 10am. Athletic legend Miruts Yifter will talk about his illustrious past achievements, along with the Ethiopian athletics team’s technical director, Dube Jillo, who can brief on the technical side of the current Olympic intake, in particular the new generation of athletes, and the aspirations of the Horn of Africa nation.
