DMV-TDA committee, Washington DC, August 07, 2012
On July 28, 2012, members and supporters of Tigray Development Association came from all over the DMV (DC, MD, VA) area to support a successful TDA-DC fundraising event night, “TDA Night".
As the hall slowly filled with families and friends, the melodies from Asfaw's Kirar, Kedir's guitar and Birhane's keyboard dazzled over 250 crowds of people all night long music in support of TDA-DC.
No doubt the night belonged to the young generation and that was symbolized by no other than the star singer for the evening, Teddy Gebrehiwot, aka "Halengi Mussaie". Singing “Kuda Adey”, Teddy rocked the staged with his youthful energy as all age alike danced the night away, attesting to the old saying "killing two birds by one stone". You can have fun and at the same time contribute to a great cause of building schools and library with TDA.
TDA Night wouldn’t have been successful without the dedication of countless of people who contributed their time and knowledge for their much-loved people. Thus, it was befitting that the TDA-DC Chapter president introduced the old and new board members of the committee at the opening of the event night. While the more experienced board members promised to mentor and guide the new comers, in return, the young generation promised to take the helm of leadership and transform the organization to make it more vibrant and encompassing. For the people that attended the event, the aroma in the room screamed changed in progress.
While the majority of funds were raised from pledges and donations, it was joyful to see children as young as eight years old selling bracelets to raise money for building schools in Tigray Ethiopia. Overall, $10,000 was raised and that was possible due to the generosity of members and supporters of Tigray Development Association.
DMV, stay tuned as TDA will have a big event in November (Thanksgiving)!
