Italian Development Cooperation in Ethiopia Join global campaign one billion rising to stop violence against women and girls and the Italian Development Cooperation in Ethiopia – Italian School Galileo Galilei of Addis Ababa on February 14, 2013

On February 14, 2013, at 10:00 am, we the Italian Development Cooperation in Ethiopia (IDC) and the Italian School in Addis Ababa, with the support of the Embassy of Italy in Ethiopia, the Italian Cultural Institute of Addis Ababa, the Juventus Club, the Salesians of Don Bosco and the Inter-African Committee (IAC), will join activists around the world for ONE BILLION RISING, the largest day of action in the history of V-Day, the global activist movement to end violence against women and girls.

ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. On February 14, 2013, V-Day’s 15th anniversary, we IDC and the students of the Italian School of Addis Ababa will join activists, writers, thinkers, celebrities, and women and men across the world as we express our outrage, demand change, strike, dance, and RISE in defiance of the injustices women suffer, demanding an end to violence against women. “One Billion Women Violated Is An Atrocity. One Billion Women Dancing Is A Revolution”.

On February 14, at 10:00 am, over 200 students of the Italian School and 100 students of the Don Bosco School in Mekanissa of Addis Ababa will interrupt their lessons, RISE UP, run to the schoolyard and throw a flash mob to the rhythm of Ethiopian music. This action will promote the rights and equality of women, too often violated, in order to make them a reality for all. Please join us!
