His Holiness Abune Paulos Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. Fifth Patriarch and Catholicos (re-ese Liqane Papasat) of Ethiopia, Ichege of the See of St. Tekle Haymanot, Archbishop of Axum.

Patriarch Dr. Abune Paulos's birth name was Gebre Medhin Wolde Yohanness. His family was long associated with the Enda Abba Garima Monastery a few kilometers south east of the city.
Abune Poulos was a renowned scholar and a peace advocate worldwide. He lived in exile in the United States while fascist Derg was in power. He was one of the greatest Patriarchs Ethiopia have ever had.
