Ashenda is a unique Tigraian traditional festival which takes place in August to mark the ending of fasting called filseta. It also has a religious significance related to St. Marry in the Ethiopian Orthodox Christian Church which was established in Axum, the old capital of Ethiopia in the state of Tigrai.
