The destiny of Tigrai will be determined only by the people of Tigrai

Tigrai Online, June 19, 2019

Mr. Demeke Mekonnen you have absolutely not right to talk about the Tigrai people, you should have been brought to justice for the crimes you commited against our people.

The people of Tigrai have been governing themselves at least for three and half thousand years under organized and structured government with written laws and rules.

The ancient  Damat or Yeha and Axumite Kingdoms, the newly found 3200 years old setelment with  modern typical Tigrai style masonry houses at Mai Adrasha near Enda Silasse, Shire which are in the heart of Tigrai are fine examples of Tigrai people’s advanced civilization and  long history with their own well established functioning governments. The aim of this article is not to educate the reader the long and extraordinary history of Tigrai, but to expose the conniving and insidious nature of the mercenary team thrusting Ethiopia in to the edge of breaking point.

Last week Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael the Deputy President of Tigrai gave a short interview to the Ethiopian Reporter. In the interview Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael replied when he was asked the following pointed straight forward question, “So are you saying that the people want to secede from Ethiopia? Yes, there is a growing feeling among the public. It is only us who are saying that we shouldn’t resort to such feelings. We, as the regional government, are telling our people that those problems will be solved and we are telling them to be patient. However, the pressure from the public is different. People even tell me that I shouldn’t go for meetings to Addis Ababa. All those things pushed the people to the edge. They feel hopeless and are saying that we should secede from Ethiopia.

There have been quite reactions from the public and Ethiopian government officials. The overwhelming majority of Tigraians agreed with Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael’s assessment of the situation in Ethiopia in general and the Tigrai masses sentiment. Some Ethiopians were dismissive and others went beyond contemptuous they were threatening.

The most surprising and ironic reaction came from the current Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen Hassen. In reaction to Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael’s interview where he said the people of Tigrai are fed up with the treatment of the current government, Demeke said those who are telling us   that the people of Tigrai wanted to secede are useless people who have forgotten their Tigrai heritage. The people of Tigrai are not some kind of a leaf or a branch of Ethiopia they are the trunk of the country. Wow Mr. Demeke! did you forget this fact in 2016 and 2017 when you deported over 11 thousand Tigrai orgin people from Amhara state?

Now let’s examine Demeke Mekonnen’s speech for a moment. Demeke was a Vice President of the Amhara regional state, Minister of Education under the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, Deputy Prime Minister under Hailemariam Desalegn and Abiy Ahmed Ali. Demeke Mekonnen Hassen has been in some form of political power for the past 27 years under EPRDF. This man is a very opportunistic parasite who has been trying to get to the top of power by any means necessary, but he always ends up second. Last year this dimwit said the last 27 years were hell for the Ethiopian people despite being one of the high politicians under EPRDF.

Under the watch of Demeke Mekonnen in the federal government and Amhara regional government tens of thousands of Tigraians were brutally uprooted from their houses and deported from Amhara regional state and hundreds more were killed. As recent as last month students from Tigrai have been killed in Debremarkos and Debrebirhan universities and Demeke didn’t say a word about it. It is so ironic this rubbish evil man has the nerves and the audacity to speak about the Tigrai people’s fate now.

Dmeke the people of Tigrai know who they are they don’t need your pathetic lies about their identity. Tigrai’s mark has been written in history in the past four thousand years and the entire world knows this fact. Imbeciles like you talk too much about the people of Tigrai, but as far as the people of Tigrai are concerned you mean absolutely nothing to us.

Demeke and his mercenary team has nothing to do regarding the choice of Tigrai people whether they want become an independent country or they want to stay as part of Ethiopia. There has never been and there will never be any power in Ethiopia that would affect the choice of Tigrai and Tigraians in any shape or form. Ethiopia does not have the will or the means to stop Tigrai from implementing what its people want. The destiny of Tigrai will always be determined only by the people of Tigrai.

Destiny of Tigrai will be determined only by Tigrai people

In the above picture on the left you see an Axumite jar from thaousands years ago in the shape of a woman with a typical Tigrai women hairstyle found in Axum. On the right you see a modern typical young woman with the same hair style. The Tigrai people maintained their culture, language and history for a very long time.
