Embassy of Ethiopia in Washington DC honored Peace Corps

An event was organized to thank Peace Corps for the tremendous job that they have done in Ethiopia since 1962. The event  that took place at the Ethiopian embassy in Washington on September 23/2016 brought more than a hundred Peace Corp volunteers together from across the US who have served in Ethiopia at different times including those who served fifty four years ago.

During the occasion Ethiopian Ambassador to the United States Girma Birru said the huge investment Peace Corps made on education and other social sectors has contributed much to the current Ethiopia's continuous development process. He also said the seed of Peace Corp volunteers planted in the education sector has flourished through time and today more that 30 million students are going to school in Ethiopia. Ambassador Girma also noted that Ethiopia still needs the support of Peace Corps for the challenges it faces in its endeavor to speed up its overall development.

During the occasion volunteers from the old and younger generation shared their experiences that testify the existence of a very strong friendship among the peoples of Ethiopia and the United Sates. A Presentation was also made on the projects Peace Corps volunteers are going to implement in the education sector.

Nearly four thousand volunteers have served in Ethiopia since 1962 in the sectors of education, community development, business development, agriculture and health.
