Ethiopian Airlines, the largest airline in Africa, is pleased to announce that it has won the Rising Star Award by Vienna International Airport’s summer event for registering significant traffic growth for the year 2014. The award was presented as a token of their appreciation for the outstanding performance at an event held in Haus Des Meeres Restaurant on June 16, 2015.
Vienna International Airport conducts the annual summer event every June and selects winners based on unique parameters for each year where traffic growth was the point in focus for 2014. Vienna Airport was able to report a good passenger growth over the course of last year, primarily due to the airlines at Vienna Airport.
Ethiopian Group CEO, Tewolde GebreMariam, said, "We are honored to receive Vienna International Airport’s Rising Star Award. As one of the leading airlines in Africa, we have always believed that by cooperating with quality partners such as Vienna International Airport, we can bring greater convenience and comfort for all our passengers. This award is a testimony to the close collaboration that has helped us expand our network and enhance our product quality.”
Ethiopian started its fourth direct weekly operation to Vienna on the 2nd of June 2014 in a codeshare partnership with Austrian Airlines. The agreement has enabled Ethiopian to provide seamless and convenient connectivity options for travelers between Africa and cities in Central and Eastern Europe. Likewise, the agreement has provided seamless and smooth connectivity to Austrian Airlines customers to our ever growing network in Africa.
Ethiopian has upgraded its services to Vienna since March 2015 to the state-of-the-art and luxury filled Boeing 787 Dreamliners – the most technologically-advanced commercial aircraft offering unparalleled on-board comfort to passengers with their high ceilings, the biggest windows in the sky, greatly reduced noise, unique lighting systems and higher levels of humidity.
