Ethiopian Scientist Dr. Fetien Abay Abera wins AU Award for Her Outstanding Achievements in Science and Technology
Fetien Abay Abera (PhD) is selected as a winner of the prestigious African Union Kwame Nkrumah Scientific Awards 2014, Regional Award for Women in recognition for her outstanding achievements in Science and Technology on December 19, 2014, at the head quarter of African Union in Addis Ababa. Doctor Fetien is selected as East African laureate in the earth and life sciences category.
Fetien Abay (PhD) is serving Mekelle University as Director Institute of Environment, Gender and Development Studies (IEGDS) and scientific coordinator of different community based projects.
Her selection for this prestigious award was based on her academic and employment background, academic achievement and scientific publications (number of no of peer reviewed journals, book chapters), number of inventions and/or technologies registered, research impact for Africa’s socio-economic development, supervision of the African students, and contribution to African Libraries.
The objective of the AU award programme is to award cash prizes and recognition certificates to excelling African women researchers for their achievements in two categories Earth and Life Sciences, and Basic Science, Technology and Innovation
The African Union Kwame Nkrumah Scientific Awards, formerly known as the African Union Scientific Award Program, aims to honor top African scientists for their scientific achievements, valuable discoveries and findings. Established in September 2008, this program is part of the African Union Commission’s commitment to ensure science and technology contributes to the sustainable development efforts of the African Union.
