President Xi made the remark when he met Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn who in the Chinese capital Beijing to attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation Forum organized by China.

The high level International Forum will be attended by 29 world leaders including European, African, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde and World Bank President Kim Yong and Russian President Putin. The Forum is scheduled to take place on May 14 and 15.

"The cooperation between China and Ethiopia plays a leading role in China-Africa cooperation. China is willing to deepen all-round cooperation with Ethiopia, a highly influential nation in Africa, in the process of implementing the outcomes of the Johannesburg summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and building the Belt and Road", President Xi said.

A high level Ethiopian delegation led by Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn is already in Beijing.

According to the Chinese website Xinhuanet, Prime Minister Hailemariam said, “Ethiopia and China have achieved significant improvements in cooperation in areas including trade and economy, investment, industrial capacity and infrastructure construction.

The Belt and Road Initiative is a farsighted initiative with global implications, which will promote connectivity and cooperation in trade and investment. Ethiopia will actively join in the construction of the Belt and Road, he said.”

Unlike the Western investment and aid the Chinese investment does not come with millions of strings attached. Their business and investment is mainly based on a mutual benefit which says help me and I will help you. The Chinese also don’t interfere in other countries domestic political affairs and they are not in to over throwing governments and ruing courtiers. When was the last time you heard the Chinese government leading a “Banana Revolution”?

Ethiopia with over 105 million people, one of the fastest growing economies in the world and strategic geo location is a great country. The only thing is the Ethiopian activists and politicians should get a grip of their over hyper active self aggrandizing and start thinking a little bit farther from their noses for the common strategy and unity of the country.
