As the political landscape in Zimbabwe changes in a very fast pace, Colonel Mengistu Haile Mariam, the butcher of Africa might be extradited to Ethiopia soon. Mengistu Haile Mariam’s guardian angel President Robert Mugabe has been removed from power a few weeks ago now Mengistu is venerable for any action including deportation back to Ethiopia.

Colonel Mengistu Haile Mariam has been convicted in absentia for his crimes in Ethiopia. He was responsible for the killing of half a million people in the notorious “Red Terror” campaign. The horrible campaign mainly took place in Tigrai, Addis Ababa, and Gonder.

In addition to the Red Terror Colonel Mengistu Haile Mariam is charged for eradication of entire communities in Tigrai by uprooting hundred thousands of people from their villages and towns and throwing them in southern Ethiopia in the name of settlement. This evil man’s true motive for this eviction of Tigraians from their homeland was to deprive the TPLF its source of fighting man power and reduce the population of Tigrai. Thousands of Tigraian civilians perished in a strange land away from their families.

The 80 years old Ethiopian dictator has been living a peaceful and comfortable life for the past 27 years in Zimbabwe. Thanks to the millions of dollars he stole from the Ethiopian people and his buddy Mugabe no one was able to touch him but, his luck is about run out.

In the seventeen years Mengistu was in power hundreds of towns and villages were totally destroyed in Tigrai and Eritrea including the town of Hawzien in eastern Tigrai where over three thousand people were killed in less than four hours on June 22, 1988 when four Mig fighter jets and MI 24 gunship helicopters rained fire in a market place. Just about a month before that on May 12, 1988 over 400 villagers were run over with tanks while they were alive in the village of Sheeb in Eritrea.

In the failed war he conducted in Eritrea and Tigrai hundreds of thousands of Ethiopian soldiers lost their lives in a war led by corrupt and unprofessional military generals like him.

Finally the butcher of Africa might be coming back to face justice in Ethiopia. We understand some people were calling for him to come to power in last year’s demonstrations, but if he is coming back which we think he is, he is coming to rot in prison the rest of his life.
