The president of the United States of America Barak Obama and the Prime minister of Ethiopia Hailemariam Desalegn held a joint press conference this morning Monday July 27, 2015 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

President Obama is in Ethiopia in a two day official visit. While in Ethiopia he will hold talks with African Union leaders.

President Obama and the Ethiopian prime minister held a long press conference in front of local and international journalists. After each leader gave his statement, the journalists were given a chance to ask questions.

A journalist from the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation asked President Obama about the terrorist groups that are based in Eritrea and financed, trained and armed by the one man regime in Eritrea. The president’s answer indicate that the USA government is aware about what is going on and once the facts are established about the various extremist groups in America and armed groups in Eritrea action will be taken by the US.

Question: Mr. President you mentioned earlier that combating terrorism is one of the areas Ethiopia and the USA are partnering, however organizations based in the US and in Eritrea are obstructing Ethiopia’s anti terrorism efforts, how would your government assist Ethiopia in this regard?

President Obama answered “Well, on the first issue this was part of our conversation both with respect to security and also with good governance and human rights issues. Our policy is that we oppose terrorism wherever it may occur. We are opposed to any group that promoting the violent overthrow of a government including the government of Ethiopia that has been democratically elected. I also shared with the prime minister our interest in deepening our intelligence corporation we have had fruitful discussions about ending the flow of foreign financing for terrorism.

President Barak Obama is in Ethiopia with 20 other American law makers, White House high officials and over 300 high level business people. It is expected there will be many bilateral agreements signed between the USA and Ethiopia on security, business, and military.

The representatives of American businesses and companies will have a chance to see firsthand investment opportunities in Ethiopia. On the other hand this will open the doors for Ethiopian businesses and companies in to the American market.
