Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn announced his resignation on live Ethiopian TV today Thursday February 16, 2018. Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has been in power since the death of the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi in 2012.
Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn’s resignation came amid political crisis, mass demonstrations and when Ethiopia is facing unprecedented breakdown in law and order.
His biggest failure is not to use all the resource in his disposal including the Ethiopian defense forces and federal forces to protect civilians.
Instead of deploying the federal security forces at the first sign of trouble before the loss of life and property he hesitated to enforce the law. Today the security situation in Oromo and Amhara regional states is out of control. In Tigrai regional state the people are sick and tired of waiting for the federal government to enforce the law and they might take things matters into their own hands.
