Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam

Investment Opportunities and economic development

On February 8, experts, including W/o Fikerte Tamiru W/Agegnehue and Ato Zadig Abrha, from the Office of the National Council for the Construction of GERD and Ato Zemedeneh Negatu, Managing Partner Ethiopia & Head Transaction Advisory Services, Eastern Africa Ernst & Young LLP will present updates on the construction of the GERD and the investment climate in Ethiopia. The event will take place at Naperdak Hall 770 Montague Expressway, San Jose 5:30pm – 11:30pm.  Buy your tickets now $30 (includes dinner).

Abay rushes from its origin in Lake Tana, cascading past the rugged gorges, where it meets up with the white Nile in Khartoum.  From there, it flows north ward, continuing its 900 mile journey into Egypt.   The river is used to irrigate millions of acres of the desert and to generate electricity that powers the heavy industries all across Egypt. 85% of the water that reaches Egypt originates in Ethiopia.  But Ethiopia’s share of Abay is 0%.  Citing colonial era treaties, using threats of war, destabilization efforts, and lobbying international financial institutions, Egypt has successfully prevented Ethiopia from utilizing Abay.  That is until now.

The construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam will be a game changer for Ethiopia.  We have before us, an opportunity to act and to change the course of history. We invite you to join us for this very informative and timely event.

About The Abay Dam Council of Bay Area:

We are a diverse group of Ethiopians and Ethiopian-Americans who support the construction of the Abay dam.  We don’t favor one ethnic group the other.  We don’t support one brand of politics over another.  We don’t promote one type of religion over another.  We believe that our diversity is our strength. On issues concerning Abay, we are one.
