On June 25, 2015 the General Assembly of the European Council on Tourism and Trade (ECTT), has chosen Ethiopia as the number one World Best Tourist Destination and Favorite Cultural Destination for 2015. The assembly arrived in the conclusion after taking careful and great consideration to the list of candidates they had.

The report noted the reasons for awarding World Best Tourist Destination For 2015 Prize To Ethiopia:

The press release of the assembly list is very long and full of detail information why Ethiopia is the perfect choice. Tigrai Online just put down the above first few paragraphs of the announcement. The report continued saying, “All this sites where recognized as being of world significance and registered as UNESCO World heritage monuments.”
“Ethiopia is from today a perfect, safe and outstanding place to visit, the countries gates are opened and all world tourism experts expressed their confidence in the potential and future of tourism in ETHIOPIA”, concluded Professor Anton Caragea, President of the European Council on Tourism and Trade.
This amazing award will tremendously help the Ethiopian tourism industry. Such announcements don’t come every day and certainly don’t happen to every country. This is a free advertisement for Ethiopia as a nation and we are grateful for the General Assembly of the European Council on Tourism and Trade (ECTT) for taking the time to choose Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian government and people should immediately start taking action to get ready. This advantageous chance is only for a year and our country should take full advantage of it. If it is done right it could result in long term and permanent increase of tourists to Ethiopia.
Even though Ethiopia is endowed with some of the most wonderful historical and natural sites, some of them are not equipped to host thousands of tourists. There is considerable job to be done to bring those sites to standard in terms of accommodation, sanitation, transportation, information, organization, and to some extent safety need to be improved.
Tourism could be a multibillion dollar industry in Ethiopia bringing much needed hard currency. Tourism in Ethiopia has the potential to become one of the biggest income generating source without harming the environment.
If the necessary safety elements are not in place, tourism also has the potential to do damage to the country. Special care and attention should be given to linguistic, religious, cultural, political and security sectors. The government should train special security forces and set up multi level safety nets to guard our artifacts form international thieves.
