Obituary Berhane Aregay from Enticho, Tigrai, Ethiopia

Berhane Aregay was born on September 02, 1953 in Asmara, Eritrea to Bashai Aregay Asgedom and W/ro Dinquan Gebremedhin.

Berhane Attended Elementary school in Enticho Town and did his Secondary Education in Adwa town of Tigray Regional state, Ethiopia. Upon finishing high school he joined the Marin Branch of the Ethiopian navy, where he diligently served his native country for nine years rising to the rank of petty officer 1st class, before joining the Merchant navy where he worked for 4 years.

In 1978, Berhane migrated to the United States, residing since mostly in the New York area. In 1995 Berhane married the love of his life Elsa Kidane.  From their Union their two lovely sons, Fenote and Nati were born. Throughout his residency in his adaptive country of the US, Berhane maintained a very close attachment to his native country, Ethiopia and generously contributed to its economic and social progress. He was an active and contributing member of the community associations in the New York area for more than 36 years.

Moreover, Berhane has helped his extended family, changing the lives of many, including sponsoring and helping a niece and a cousin to settle in the US and providing scholarships to his nephews, nieces and other relatives back in Ethiopia, some of whom has gone to PHD levels. Nothing else gave Berhane as much pride as seeing

Throughout his life Berhane has touched countless lives of all ages. His kindness and loving persona was so infectious that whether among colleagues at work, the residents at his neighborhood or community circles, Berhane was fondly referred to, as Kind, humble, peaceful,  gentle and loving.

Berhane was such a beautiful soul who found joy at giving and receiving in equal measure, ever grateful for the smallest of things coming his way.

Berhane is survived by his wife Elsa Kidane and sons Fenote and Nati.
