Eritrea adds another badge of honor, one of the top ten corrupted countries in the world
Tigrai Online February 6, 2014
The tiny nation of Eritrea in the Horn of Africa has been gaining ranks in the world since it got it’s independence from Ethiopia in 1993, but not for the right reasons.
First was the longest war of independence in Africa. After that was the most aggressive nation in Africa, for starting wars with all it’s neighbors, namely with Sudan, Yemen, Ethiopia and Djibouti. Then it becomes the number one country for harboring terrorist groups from many nations. Terrorist groups from Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, Djibouti, Chad, Libya, South Sudan, DR Congo, Yemen and Srilanka are trained and organized in Eritrea. In 2011 Eritrean became the number two most repressive country on earth just after North Korea. This rank earned Eritrea the nickname the giant prison or the North Korea of Africa. Eritrea grabbed the top ten refugee producing countries in the world since 2009 and is climbing higher on the list. In 2015 Eritrea added another top number five spot, it is one the most corrupted countries in the world. Billionaires Newswire published a list of the top most corrupted countries in the world on January 8, 2015. Eritrea is number three on the list.
“Eritrea has been one of a number of African nations to benefit from a recent mining boom, but with new economic horizons have come staggering levels of corruption. According to some reports, the Eritrean government has brought in revenues of over $1 billion through the Bisha gold mine in 2011, yet this huge sum of money has not been accounted for” Billionaires Newswire said on it’s report.
A couple of years ago a United Nations Security Council report said Eritrean military generals are directly involved in human trafficking, organ harvesting, illegal arms deal with terrorists like Al-Shabab and Hamas and unimaginable corruption sucking dry the meager resources of the county.
