33rd Anniversary of T.P.L.F Marked Colorfully in the DC Metro Area

The 33rd Anniversary monumental celebration of the commemoration on February 23rd 2008 of the founding of the Tigray peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) and the advent of the armed uprising of the people of Tigray against national oppression, for Peace, Democracy, Development, Justice and Equality was underlined by a sense of optimism for the future and a sober reflection of the past.

Members of the Tigray Community in the Washington metro area whose epic turn out was symbolic of the deep and all-embracing attributes to the value of the struggle that has consumed the martyrdom of tens of thousands of youth, were joined by friends on this joyful event.

The struggle thus far traversed and the sacrifices that accrued were highlighted during the occasion. Emphasis was also due to the current situation that our country Ethiopia is undergoing. On this level the encouraging milestones that are being registered in the realm of democracy, good governance, development, peace and justice were underscored. In this regard the impressive economic progress that is being attained in our country Ethiopia, was rated as a success story, that bears the seeds of predictable and assured onward march for the years to come, heralding rooting out of poverty in the country.

A unique feature of the occasion was that the celebration has attracted a huge portion of the new and emerging generation of members of the Tigray community.

The artistic and musical menu that was presented during the festive evening moved the audience to a jovial moment of dance and songs, both traditional and modern. A poetry recital that was presented also recalled the sacrifices paid to date and pledged for a renewed dedication.

The celebration was truly accompanied by a sense of candid recollection of the past and a renewed commitment and a sense of unity to redouble the efforts to realize the dream and vision of the TPLF, by firmly instituting dependable and sustainable peace, development, democracy and good governance, along with democratic forces embedded under the umbrella of the Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) in Ethiopia.

The joyous occasion was graced by the presence of his Excellency Dr. Samuel Assefa, Ambassador, Extra-Ordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to the US, and other invited gusts.
