The unassuming hero - Abel Tesfay - The Weeknd

It goes with out saying, The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfay is one of the most successful and beloved entertainers of his generation. Nevertheless, despite his status in the industry (entertainment) he is recognized for his dawn to earth attitude.

A couple of years a go, during the Grammys award ceremony, Adele, another extraordinary singer is quoted to have said, “how is this guy (the Weeknd) so talented and handsome yet so humble”.

Indeed, it is a valid question. The entertainment industry’s ambiance is full of glamour, fame, conspicuous consumption, adventure… yet the Weeknd has managed to shield himself from such lifestyle.

And now he has earned another accolade: the Weeknd, the humanitarian. Few weeks into the aggression against our homeland…when our people fled to Sudan to seek refuge, the Weeknd was one of those who acted immediately, donating a million dollar to relief efforts by the United Nations World Food Program.

That is not the end of the story, according to the recent tweet by Samantha Power, the head of USAID, the Weeknd is in constant contact with her agency and other policy makers. This shows he is emotionally involved about the situation in Tigray.
