The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is the largest hydro electric dam in Africa
Why does the Ethiopian toxic Diaspora oppose the GERD?

The main reason the toxic extremist Ethiopian Diaspora doesn’t want the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam to be completed successfully is out of spite for the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. Mr. Meles Zenawi had vision for a long time that if Ethiopian people are going to achieve a tangible level of prosperity, it was through electrification.
Meles insisted a true independence of African countries can be realized when they are absolutely self sufficient economically. He believed the western countries reached where they are by providing abundant electric power to manufacturing industries. He had this dream when he was a TPLF fighter in the jungle. He thought if a country can’t build the factories that make engines itself, it can’t be really free. Heavy industries and factories require a huge amount of electric power and hydro electric, solar power, and wind energy are the best sources of limitless green energy.
Ethiopia a country blessed with immense potential for electric power generation is spending billions of dollars to build surplus energy supply for itself and for export. Thanks to the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi’s vision, Ethiopian mega projects are becoming realities and Ethiopia is on its way to becoming the energy hub of east Africa.
Majority Ethiopians are one hundred percent behind these mega projects that will make Ethiopia an economic power house in Africa and they are contributing their money, knowledge, labor, and moral support. However there are some power hungry Ethiopians mainly in the Diaspora trying to distract the Ethiopian people and government from reaching their goal. Those high priests of poverty don’t have an alternative economic policy for Ethiopia when they are vehemently opposing the EPRDF government. The only thing they bring to Ethiopia is destruction, disharmony, and mayhem simply because they are not in power.
The same people are working with foreign powers and anti Ethiopian forces topple the Ethiopian government and stop the mega projects under way like the GERD. One of those extremist individuals opposing anything and everything initiated by the current Ethiopian government wrote the following about the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
“When I wrote “Dam! White Elephants in Ethiopia” in April 2014, T-TPLF trolls accused me of being “against Ethiopia”. In that commentary, I argued that the so-called “Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam” (GERD) is actually a vanity make-believe project, just like all the other African vanity projects, principally intended to glorify the late T-TPLF thugmaster Meles Zenawi posthumously. “
Those are people claiming to be working for the betterment of the Ethiopian people. If it is not for the sheer hate of Meles Zenawi and EPRDF/TPLF why would an Ethiopian in his right mind think like that?
The same person wrote the following statement when the Addis Ababa–Djibouti Railway was inaugurated in October 2016.
“The “Ethiopian Railway” project is said to connect the Ethiopian capital with Djibouti on the Red Sea coast. The USD$4 billion project is backed by China and built by the China Railway Engineering Corp. and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.
The Chinese have built dozens of ghost cities where no one can afford to live, including some in Angola. Now they have built the first ghost railway to nowhere in Ethiopia.”
Both the above statements were made by Professor Alemayehu Gebremariam on Ethiomedia and on his own blog respectively. Trust me he is not the only one with such extreme views of the EPRDF government, there many more Diaspora intellectuals spewing out poisonous propaganda against the Ethiopian government and its mega developmental projects.
Despite the futile efforts of extremist groups and individuals, Meles Zenwi will be remember as the first Ethiopian leader who challenged the Egyptians on the use of the Nile River and the father of GERD.
