The ark of the Covenant still in Ethiopia not stolen
The Ark of the Covenant is not stolen from Ethiopia is still safe in Axum

Last week a shady and unknown website called worldnewsdaliyreports.com reported the Ark of the Covenant has been stolen from its permanent resting place the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion in the city of Axum, Tigrai state northern Ethiopia.

The news report continued to say that the head and Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Abune Mathias has confirmed the incident in a press release he gave on November 11, 2014.

This shocking news was picked up by all the social media and it spread like wild fire. Tigrai Online received so many emails inquiring any clarification or confirmation if the news was true. Our readers from around the world flooded us with emails. Some said it is in the front page of Ethiomedia.com. We tried to inform the people who asked us if we knew anything about the news, most likely it is false news.

We checked Ethiomedia on November 14, 2014 to make sure the news about the Ark of the Covenant was posted there. Sure enough our readers were right, the news article was posted near the top of Ethiomedia frontpage. The situation was compounded when the malicious news about our Arc was republished in Ethiomedia. We can’t believe Ethiomedia one of the biggest Ethiopian opposition websites would post such a destructive news without making sure it was true. Not a single international news media like BBC or CNN had said anything about it, but Ethiomedia published it in its entirety in their website.

Tigrai Online did its own investigating and found out the worldnewsdaliyreports.com website is a fake news website. The website is known for its fabricated news reports and for creating dumb fake news. The Worldnewsdaliyreports website was created in November 2, 2013. It is registered in the USA and France.

Worldnewsdaliyreports.com is full of false news. The website’s owners have stuck a little paragraph telling all their content is 100% fake and flase. In a disclaimer clearly put right on top of the website, one will find the following paragraph.

"World News Daily Report is a news and political satire web publication, which may or may not use real names, often in semi-real or mostly fictitious ways. All news articles contained within worldnewsdailyreport.com are fiction, and presumably fake news. Any resemblance to the truth is purely coincidental, except for all references to politicians and/or celebrities, in which case they are based on real people, but still based almost entirely in fiction".

As you can see in the above disclaimer the website owners didn’t try to hide the fact that all their news and articles are fake. The content is intended for political satire (joke). Despite this clear warning on the website many Ethiopians including the editors of Ethiomedia spread this damaging news article. We can’t expect the average person to dig deep and verify if a news article is real or not.  It is disappointing to see those who run news media sites didn’t bother to do a little investigation before posting such fake and misleading news. We have checked again on Ethiomedia this morning and the article has been removed from the homepage, but still if you search for it on the search box it is the top result.

Ethiomedia.com news saying the ark of the Covenant is stolen
The above snapshot was taken on November 15, 2014 from Ethiomedia search box clearly showing the fake article posted. Please don't try to click the above links it is a picture of the result we searched.

The good news is the Ark of the Covenant was not stolen. The Ethiopian Church Authorities never gave any press release about the ArK of the Covenant being stolen.

We would like to inform you by the grace and power of God the most revered relic of planet earth, the Ark of the Covenant is safe in Ethiopia. The Ark of the Covenant has been in Ethiopia for thousands of years where the people have been guarding it with their lives.
