Former Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Dr.Thomas R. Frieden says Dr. Tedros Adhanom is “a Qualified Candidate” to become the head of The World Health Organization. In a letter he wrote to the New York Times on Monday 15, 2017, he praised Dr. Tedros Adhanom’s policies and decisions when the former was Ethiopian minister of health.
“Cholera can be a devastating disease, but rapid action saves lives and stops outbreaks. Dr. Tedros created a network of nearly 40,000 female community health workers who were trained, supported and supervised to implement programs, including oral rehydration therapy, that prevents death from diarrhea and other causes.”
Some Ethiopian extremists and their supporters have been making a loud noise against Dr. Tedros Adhanom’s candidacy. A few weeks ago when the WHO announced the three finalists and when Dr. Tedros Adhanom was leading the online popular voting, the Ethiopian extremists have increased their propaganda campaign.
One of the false accusatory articles is posted in many opposition websites and some international sites including the New York Times. Dr.Thomas R. Frieden further explained why Dr. Tedros Adhanom is a qualified person to lead the WHO, “As director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, I traveled to Ethiopia several times and saw impressive progress strengthening community health, improving hospital care and establishing disease-tracking systems. The world would be safer and healthier if W.H.O. facilitates this type of progress in more countries.”
The Ethiopian extremist groups while they preach for Ethiopian unity in theory, their every action shows they are working only working for one ethnic group domination of Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa. They only would accept Ethiopian unity as long as they dominate every aspect of life in Ethiopia. The same reason they reject anything and everything done by the current government.
