Tigrai Online - FRANKFURT, Germany –The Star Alliance Navigator app for the iPad has received the prestigious Red Dot at the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2013 competition, one of the largest and most acclaimed international design contests.
The judges based their decision on the fact that the Navigator app for the iPad sets a new industry benchmark with regards to iPad design, customer experience and technology. This is underlined by the state-of-the-art animated and interactive 3D globe featured in the app.
The international jury spent several days evaluating approximately 6,800 entries live and on site. Only the best works are rewarded with the quality seal for design. This year, the Red Dot jury granted 509 Red Dot awards for exceptional creative achievements in the field of communication design.
“The jury was once again impressed by many of the entries. However, only works which manage to stand out from the crowd, showing a high market potential and economic visibility, were able to win a Red Dot”, says Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of Red Dot.
“Receiving the prestigious Red Dot is a real honour for us. Being recognised by the experts that make up the Red Dot jury is a true endorsement of the Star Alliance brand. It is also testimony to the fact that our brand continues to be of contemporary nature, reflecting our innovativeness and conveying our high quality standards and messages in today’s digital world”, said Horst Findeisen, VP Commercial and Business Development at Star Alliance.
The Star Alliance Navigator app for the iPad was launched in May this year and forms part of the Alliance’s strategy of providing easy mobile access to its products and services.
The hallmark of the new tool is an interactive 3D globe which visually depicts the 28 airline network of more than 21,900 daily flights covering 1,328 world-wide destinations. Using the app, customers access a variety of Alliance travel services, as for example Flight Search - covering flight schedules for all Star Alliance member airlines, Flight Status – tracking any Star Alliance member airline flight and Lounge Finder – providing details of the more than 1,000 lounges offered by Star Alliance and its member airlines. In addition, the “My Trip” feature, which is unique to the app, enables customers to store and monitor their Alliance flight itineraries.
The app was created by SapientNitro and can be downloaded via www.staralliance.com or directly from the App store.
The Red Dot winners will be honoured at a festive award ceremony to be held on October 18th, 2013 at the Konzerthaus Berlin, Germany. All award-winning works will be showcased at the Umspannwerk at Berlin Alexanderplatz October 19th – 20th, 2013.
