Ethiopia to benefit from Obama’s new $7 billion Africa Power program

Tigrai Online - June 30, 2013

Ethiopia to benefit from Obama’s new $7 billion Africa Power program
According to the White house six African countries will participate in the Power Africa initiative first phase. The countries are Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria and Tanzania. White House officials said those countries have committed to making their energy sector encouraging for outside investors.

President Obama has announced on Sunday June 30, 2013 that he would help sub Saharan Africa get more electricity. The American president announced the new $7 billion initiative called Power Africa while he was in official visit to South Africa. The bulk of the money will be shared by six African countries and Ethiopia is the first on the list.

The United States has neglected Africa for so many years. Now China has taken Africa by storm and Africa is the highest growing continent on earth, the Americans are scrambling to get a piece of the pie. America could have done much more and helped the African people get out of poverty and spread justice and democracy, instead they have been complacent.

President Obama’s reception in Africa has been mix of demonstrations telling him to back home and a very warm, happy and welcoming in some parts.

Power Africa is spouse to help elevate Obama’s legacy in Africa, but it is too late too little. According to the White house six African countries will participate in the Power Africa initiative first phase. The countries are Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria and Tanzania. White House officials said those countries have committed to making their energy sector encouraging for outside investors.

Seven American private companies including General Electric have agreed to invest billions of dollars to help financing energy in Africa.

Ethiopia definitely can use the money for some of the mega projects under construction. This will help the financing of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in directly. Whatever amount Ethiopia gets from the $7 billion Africa Power initiative money, Ethiopia can shift that amount from other projects to the largest project in the country.

We say all the crying, demonstrations, testimonies, flag waving, lying and scare tactics of the extremists in America fell on deaf ears. The only countries who are trying to destabilize Ethiopia are Egypt and Eritrea which are poor and chocking to death on their own political vomit. At the end of the day people with rational mind listen to the Ethiopian government and are giving their hard cash to help the Ethiopian people help themselves.
