On Thursday June 9, 2016 morning Al-Shabaab launched four pronged surprise attack on an Ethiopian military base in Hirran region of central Somalia.

The early morning offensive from Al-Shabaab was sucsessfrully repulsed by the Ethiopian army with help of Somalian soldiers.

The Ethiopian army destroyed 245 Al-Shabaab fighters five of them commanders. One of the commanders was not from Somalia. The identity of the foreigner commander who was killed in the battle is not yet known. Since Al-Shabaab is directly working with Al-Qeda and the Eritrean regime, he could be from Eritrea or somewhere the Middle Eastern countries.

The surviving members of Al-Shabaab are on the run and they are being perused by the Ethiopian defense forces. The Ethiopian army reported capturing variety of military weapons from Al-Shabaab.

The United Nations Monitoring Group on Somalia and Eritrea has proven more than once that Eritrea is actively supporting, training, arming, and providing military advisors to Al-Shabaab.

The latest failed offensive by Al-Shabaab coincides with the report released yesterday by the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in Eritrea. The report confirmed Eritrea has committed crimes against humanity and the leaders of the country should be tired in the International Criminal Court.

The Eritrea regime always unleashes its sleeper cells to carry out terror acts whenever it is in the cross hairs of the United Nations Security Council. The latest misadventure by Al-Shabaab most likely is a futile attempt by the mafia leaders in Asmara to divert attention.
