Italian Textile Company, Calzedonia Opens a Factory in Tigrai State Northern Ethiopia

This modern textile factory by Italian clothing Manufacturer Company, Calzedonia employs 1200 people now.

Calzedonia a world known Italian clothing Manufacturer Company opens it’s first textile Factory in Tigrai state in northern Ethiopia. The textile factory is located just outside of the city of Mekelle around Ashegoda.

The modern textile factory was build at a cost of 26 million Euros or about 30 million US dollars and it employs 1200 people, but by the beginning of 2019 it will employ 1900 employees. Calzedonia is a highly sofsticated modern company and the skill and techonolgy transfer from such a company is more than the hard currency that would be earned from exports of the factory.

Atika Mekelle has started to export about 790 thousand us dollars worth of clothes every month to Europe. The factory specializes in the area of hosiery, leggings, socks and swim wear for women, men and kids. The report indicted Calzedonia is a fashion brand company with over 4000 shops worldwide. At the inaguartion ceremony the Calzedonia representative of the company said Tigrai state is very ideal for many reasons and the company chose to establish their factor in Tigrai.
