South African cyclist won the UCI recognized Tour Meles for Green Development third round Shire to the historic city of Adwa cycling competition. However, the Ethiopian Alem Germay leads the competition in total cycling average grade. The tour will continue the day after tomorrow morning.
The event is recognized by Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) there are 72 Africcan cyclists taking part in the international event. Cyclists from Algeria, Sudan, Egypt, Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa and 12 Ethiopians in two teams are competing for the top place.
The third round competition which is from the town of Shire to the historic city of Adwa 84Km, was won by Ronald Vetler from South Africa. In the first round competition which was from Mekelle to Adigrat which is 120Km, Alem Girmay from Ethiopia won first place. In the second round from Adigrat to Axum which is129Km Ethiopian cyclist Tamrat Meressa won first place. The competition will continue and it will conclude back where it started in the capital city of Tigrai, Mekelle.
